WHEN RELATIONSHIPS BECOME DIFFICULT

Does any of this sound familiar?

When relationships become difficult, we often react in ways we don’t really want to: we withdraw, raise our voices, adapt to keep the peace, or don’t say what we truly need.

BETWEEN YOU

You keep arguing about the same things—and feel increasingly distant from each other.

You work well as a team in everyday life, but affection or intimacy have faded.

Something has shaken your trust—and you don’t know whether or how you can rebuild it.

IN YOU

You’re unhappy in your relationship and don’t know whether to stay or leave.

You keep falling for people who aren’t emotionally available.

You adapt, hold back or question your own needs—until you barely recognise yourself anymore.

MAKING ROOM FOR CHANGE

Good relationships take work, too.

Even a good relationship needs attention. That means caring for your connection with each other, as well as staying connected to yourself.

You don’t have to work everything out on your own. Asking for support doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It means your relationship matters enough to take a closer look and find a way forward.

My work is guided by three principles:

Understand

First, we make sense of what’s happening. We look beyond the problem you can see and explore what’s underneath it—until we understand what’s really going on.

Change

Then we look at how familiar patterns and recurring conflicts can shift. Together, we find new ways forward that feel right for you or for both of you—and work in everyday life.

Connect

The ultimate goal is to feel more connected: with yourself, with each other, or both. And to build a connection that can hold up when everyday life gets in the way.

WHAT GUIDES MY WORK

Your relationship doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. It just has to work for you.

YOUR OWN WAY

Together, we explore what kind of relationship you both want, what feels right for each of you, and what you would like to change.

SPACE FOR YOU BOTH

This isn’t about deciding who is right or who is “the problem”. There is room for both of your feelings, needs and boundaries—so you can be more open with each other and understand each other better.

AN APPROACH THAT FITS YOU

Every couple and every person is different. Sometimes talking helps; sometimes an exercise, a new perspective or a body-focused approach makes more sense. I choose what we do together based on what helps you move forward.

A good relationship makes room for both of you: to be close, to be different, to have your own needs and boundaries, and to be yourselves.

WHY RELATIONSHIPS MATTER TO ME

Hi, I'm Katharina.

Dr. Katharina Lewis – Psychologist & Relationship counsellor.

Relationships fascinate me because they’re where real life happens. At work and in many other parts of life, we can meet expectations, play a role or hide parts of ourselves. In a close relationship, that becomes much harder to do.

Sooner or later, our needs, fears, hopes and boundaries come into view. Sometimes we hold parts of ourselves back or adapt to keep the relationship going. But over time, it takes a lot of energy to feel that you can’t be yourself.

That’s why I love my work. I see what can change when people understand themselves better, feel able to show more of who they are and stop feeling at odds with themselves. It moves me to see how much energy people regain when they give themselves permission to be themselves.

WHAT TO EXPECT

One step at a time.

There’s no fixed programme or set number of sessions. We start with a conversation and decide together whether and how to continue.

A first conversation

We’ll start with a 30-minute online call to get to know each other, answer your questions and see whether we’re a good fit.

Further
sessions

Sessions usually take place about every two weeks, but we can meet more or less often depending on what you need. You can meet with me online or in person in Munich.

Bringing things to a close

For as long as it’s helpful, and no longer than you need. There’s no set duration. When you feel you no longer need counselling, we’ll bring our work to a close together.

INTRODUCTORY CALL

It can start with a conversation.

You may be wondering if you really need support, if you’d rather try to work things out yourselves, or if I’m the right person for you.

The first call gives us a chance to talk about what’s been going on, answer your questions and get a feel for whether we’d work well together.

Afterwards, you can take your time deciding whether you’d like to continue.

ABOUT MY SERVICES

Counselling is not psychotherapy.

I offer psychological and couples counselling for personal and relationship concerns. My work is intended to help you gain clarity, find direction and develop a better understanding of yourself and your relationships.

Counselling is not psychotherapy or medical treatment. I do not diagnose or treat mental health conditions. If you’re experiencing symptoms of a mental health condition, please speak to a doctor or a qualified psychotherapist. In some cases, counselling alongside treatment may be possible after we’ve discussed it together.
